Where are the classes held?

KD Dance Ltd operates from the Capelles Community Centre, St. Sampsons. Next door to Hautes Capelles Primary School and along the road from Aladdin’s Cave. There is also plenty of parking available, as well as a regular bus route. You will find a map of our location on our contact page.

How can I book my child/myself into a class?

Simply contact the principal either by telephone 07781-113542 or email Karen@s753102194.websitehome.co.uk or by using the form on the Contact page on this website. A suitable day/time will then be arranged for you/your child to attend a trial class.

How many children are there in a class?

In general, classes are kept to no more than 12-14 students per class and where demand arises, a duplicate class will be considered for addition to the weekly timetable.

Do teachers at KD Dance hold recognised professional qualifications?

Yes, all teachers at KD Dance Ltd hold ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) teaching qualifications and/or Acrobatic Arts Level 1 certification and/or Progressing Ballet Technique status. All members of staff hold DBS Enhanced Disclosure certificates, follow safeguarding children and health & safety procedures, along with safe dance practice.

Do you follow school terms?

KD Dance terms operate within the Guernsey State School Term dates, however there may be occasions when these do not always coincide, such as half term holiday dates. The classes are arranged into three terms per academic year; Autumn, Spring and Summer Term.

How many weeks are there per term?

Our terms are between 10 – 12 weeks in duration, with the Autumn Term tending to be the longest of the three terms. Dates are given out at the beginning of each Academic year and can be found on our Term Dates page.

Can I pay on a weekly basis, or do I have to pay per term?

Our fees are payable per term, in advance. We do not offer fees as a pay-as-you-go basis, as we could arrive at some of our classes to find that, for one reason or another, numbers are insufficient to cover the cost of the already-paid-for hall, pianist and teacher.

Can you join KD Dance at any time during the term, or do you wait until a new term commences to register?

Children and Adults may register at any time during the term and fees for that term will be adjusted accordingly. We do not want students to have to wait what could be several weeks before joining us. The only exception to this, is when a Dance Festival/School show may be taking place and entry to the school may be slightly delayed.

Do you have classes during the school holidays?

We hold an annual Summer School and various workshop events at other holiday or weekend times during the year. We love to broaden our students dance education and will often invite visiting tutors to the island, to share their particular expertise.

I am coming along/bringing my child for the first time, what should be worn?

We would recommend wearing something comfortable for all trial classes. A younger child attending Pre-School ballet could wear leggings/top and bring a favourite doll or teddy along with them. An older student may have a leotard which they can wear which would be perfectly acceptable. Hair should always be worn neatly tied off the face and no jewellery is allowed, with the exception of stud earrings.

What do I do after the trial class?

After the trial lesson, the principal will be in touch to find out how you/or your child found their class. If you would then like to enrol for classes, a registration form will need to be completed and returned.

Why do I have to give a full terms notice in writing if I want to cease classes?

This is a rule common amongst all private dance schools in the island and, aside from the courtesy point of view, it is essential for us to be fully aware of the number of children in each class per term.

I already attend another school for some classes, may I join KD Dance Ltd for classes?

We do not take pupils who are already pupils of another ISTD dance school or their family members. There are several reasons for this, the main one being the ethical consideration to the other teacher and school. The teaching of dance is a highly disciplined art form within the industry, and every teacher has his/her own ideas and teaching methods that it is hoped will carry their pupils from pre-school lessons right through to the Advanced level. This continuity can only really be achieved when all teachers in one school agree with the methodology and ideas within the school. KD Dance aims to be as ethical as possible towards all fellow teachers and their notice conditions, and will ask all prospective pupils if they have given the required notice before acceptance into the school. The one and only exception to this is our annual Summer School and workshops, when classes are open to all.

What performance opportunities will be available to my child?

KD Dance endeavours to provide various performance opportunities for all it’s students. These range from In-House productions, Dance Festivals & Eisteddfods, School Shows, Local fetes, pantomimes, off-island competitions, such as the Dance World Cup and performance trips away. This means that students of all ages and abilities are able to access performance opportunities, should they wish to do so.
